Yoga Approach & Philosophy in General
The perspective of the practice in all classes is one of using yoga and its practices as a means of supporting balance, wellness, and healing. The intention of the sessions is to engage students at the level they are best able to access the contemplative traditions of yoga- body, mind, and spirit. Class sizes are limited to encourage a deeper exploration of stress reduction and the holistic lifestyle management aspects of yoga. We can provide an opportunity for those inclined to hone their practice to more of an individual art.
Class Format Descriptions:
Basic Beginners: Come for an introspective session with less
vinyasa and deeper posture holds. Partnered meditation, postures, and breath work may be introduced.
Vigorous Beginners: The session is more challenging, and the postures in general require more stamina, strength, flexibility, and endurance. Partnered bodywork, breath work, and contemplative techniques may be introduced.
Vigorous: The class pace is faster, the session more challenging, and the postures in general require more stamina, strength, flexibility, and endurance. These sessions should only be attended by those with a solid year or more of regular yoga practice. If you are athletically minded and feel you may be able to appreciate the level of intensity in this class but have NOT been practicing yoga, feel free to inquire about joining and explain why you want to practice at this level.
Yin Yoga Practice: Slower, deeper work is the goal in this session of no more than 16 poses or their variations in the yogic texts. Poses will customarily be held for longer times with an emphasis on the lower body.
Vinyasa Slow: A slow motion format of some poses and developmental movements. With origins in Tibetan healing yoga called Kum Nye, this session places the emphasis on the meditative states unfolding naturally.
